Jeff Coulter is a life-long Charlestonian with over 45 years in the construction industry and he joined Van-Smith Concrete in 1997.

D. Van Smith Jr. 

Vice President

Van grew up in the business in the seventies working during the summers at jobs from shoveling under the plant to batching trucks. After graduation from Washington & Lee University in 1986 Van founded Waterway Dock & Marine Co. building docks and seawalls throughout the Lowcountry. In 1994 he changed course and joined his father in the family business. Van, along with a great group of dedicated employees, grew the company while maintaining its integrity and outstanding service. Today he serves as vice-president of Van-Smith Concrete Co., and President & CEO of its parent company Van-Smith Company, Inc. while also serving as President and Owner of Van Smith Block Co. which he founded in 2003.

Van has also given back to the community serving multiple terms as a board member of Mason Preparatory School (2002-08), Historic Charleston Foundation (2010-19), Carolina Yacht Club (2014-18), National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (2014-present), and Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association (2007-19) also serving as its President in 2010 and 2011. 

While not at work Van can be found enjoying the Lowcountry with his wife Lauren. His favorite hobbies are boating, fishing, hunting, or traveling with his family.

D. Wilson Taylor, Jr.

Vice President 

Wilson is a service driven, customer-oriented individual with 26+ years of experience in the ready mixed concrete industry. He has a strong mix of high-level business development, operational leadership, and product knowledge.

He is recognized by the American Concrete Institute as a Concrete Quality Technical Manager, Concrete Strength Testing Technician, Field Testing Technician – Grade I, Concrete Flatwork Technician, and an Adhesive Anchor Installer Examiner-of-Record.

Wilson is active in several construction industry related associations. He had the pleasure of serving the ACI Carolinas Chapter as President for 2019 and 2020, and as Certification Chair from 2012 to 2018. Also, he served the Charleston Contractors Association as President in 2016, and the Lowcountry Chapter of the Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association as Chapter Coordinator in 2002.
